As a way to keepsake the baby clothes of my children, I came across a Pinterest idea of making a quilt. I really liked the idea but I never imagined that I would become so infatuated with sewing and quilting. I purchased a rotary blade, cutting board, and quilting squares and started cutting up baby clothes before I even had sewing needles or a sewing machine.
During the months when I was cutting through baby clothes, I watched many YouTube videos and saved many tips and ideas on Pinterest. I originally liked the idea of hand quilting but the more videos I watched, the more I wanted a sewing machine. I bought it but I did not touch it for a while. Yes, I was scared of it, but I wasn’t ready to use it yet either. After I was done cutting out squares, I knew I needed to interface them. Cutting more squares of interfacing followed by lots of time ironing the interface squares to the clothing material. When it came time to learn how to use my sewing machine, there were so many frustrations. Working through the frustrations was worth it though.
I finally hit my groove and got some squares together. I laid out a pattern and when I stitched it all together, it was smaller than I expected so I kept adding to it until I was OK with the size. Then I came up with a quick back pattern and put that together. I am at the point where I need to make a quilt sandwich. So more posts to come!
